Flamenco is a musical style and a type of dance with a strong gipsy influence, but deeply rooted in the Moresque musical culture, with Arabic and Hebraic influence.
Originally, Flamenco consisted just of unaccompanied singing. Later, it started to be accompanied by guitar, handclap, tap and dance. Guitar and dance can also be used independently from the singing, although the latter is the very heart of the flamenco tradition. More recently, other instruments, such as “cájon” (a wooden box used as percussive instrument) as well as castanets, were introduced.
