Belly DancE

Belly dance dates back to the Matriarchal Period. Its movements suggest sensuality, as, in its primitive form, it was considered a sacred ritual. The most sensual and one of the oldest of all corporal expressions, belly dance only reached the Western world in the XIX century. As its name reveals, its charm is concentrated in the movements of the belly and feminine hips, to the sound of Arabian music.
In spite of the reduced number of records, it is calculated that belly dance had its origin in the religious ceremonies of the ancient Egypt, where it was considered a homage to the Goddesses of Fertility. With the contribution of nomadic people and travellers, this dance reached other parts of the world, such as Greece, Turkey and France, assuming new characteristics and meanings. Nowadays, there is no connection between this dance and religion and the dancer is a mere artist.
