(bolero - tango – soltinho (East Coast Swing) – cha-cha - salsa - forró - waltz - merengue - mambo - zouk - lambada - samba rock – samba de gafieira)

The pairs dance as a form of pure entertainment and performed indoor (in ballrooms) was brought by colonists to the different regions of America, where, getting mixed with the local, popular expressions, it gave birth to the vast variety of rhythms known nowadays: tango in Argentina, maxixe, which gave origin to samba de gafieira in Brazil, habanera, from which many Cuban rhythms originated, such as salsa, bolero, rumba etc, and even American swing, which is still preserved in its original expression by groups of dancers in the US and in Europe.

The ballroom dance can be considered as a way of preserving popular cultural characteristics.
